Frequently Asked Questions

Basics

What is the minimum order?

Our minimum order is 1 t-shirt (we haven't figured out how to take an order for .5 shirts or 0 shirts yet). However, the more pieces in your order, the less each piece will cost. Look at the Breakless Pricing FAQ for more info!

What are your price breaks?

We do not have price breaks at Trust. Or, more accurately, every piece you add to your order is a price break. We call it Breakless Pricing; instead of ordering 50 shirts to hit a price break when you only need 45, you can order exactly how many shirts you need and count on our consistently great pricing at every quantity.

As an added bonus, our Guaranteed Quantities means you also never have to order extra shirts to cover damages or mistakes. If you've got 32 people on your team, order 32 shirts!

Do you print posters? What about signs?

We do not print signs, posters, or anything on paper. Our presses, our screens, and our inks are set up specifically for printing on apparel.

How much do shirts cost?

This is a complicated question that we get frequently. The two biggest factors in the cost of an order are color count and quantity. The more colors, the more complicated the setup from start to finish, the more materials we use, and the higher the cost. Most of the cost of the order is in the setup, so the higher your quantity, the more that cost is spread out and the cheaper each shirt is.

It's super easy to get specific numbers, just hop over to our order setup page and try out as many combinations as you want, you don't have to pay or sign in to anything to see pricing.

How many dogs do you have?

If you follow us on social media or if you've been to our shop you know that the answer is a lot.

How long will my order take?

Our standard turnaround time is 10 business days*, so arrival date will be 1-5 days beyond that depending on your shipping time (based on your location). But if you need your shirts sooner, we’ve got you covered!

When you finalize your order simply pick your own arrival date and we will take care of everything to get it there. A small rush fee covers shipping both ways and additional labor, and you can sit back and relax because we guarantee all of our arrival dates!

*Turnaround starts from when an order is finalized, not when it is originally submitted. All quotes and mockups must be approved.

Help! I need my shirts really soon!

That's not really a question, but we can still help you out. Our rush turnaround option allows you to pick an arrival date and lets us do whatever it takes to get it there. There will be a reasonable rush fee attached based on how quickly you need it, which covers shipping fees and production costs.

Live chat us, email us, or set up a quote to figure out rush fee specifics.

Print Styles

Ordering screen printing services can be a complex and technical process with a steep learning curve. We think that is detrimental to our customers. It can keep them from getting what they actually want quickly without having to take a crash course in screen printing just to place an order. Even for experienced customers, trying to wade through technical jargon is a roadblock to getting what they want on their shirts.

After a couple years of work and thought, We spent over a year defining and re-defining three distinct categories that almost all of the prints we were doing fit into. These are clearly defined categories without technical jargon that are easy to choose from and put us on the same page as our customers every time.

Breakless Pricing

We’re all familiar with price breaks, where hitting specific quantities triggers a discount on the price-per-piece. This is the standard in the screen printing industry, but we don’t like the stress it causes. Why should we push you to order 50 shirts if you only need 45? All that leads to is wasted money and wasted t-shirts. We love our products, we don’t want them to end up in boxes or stuffed in dresser drawers. This is why we created Breakless Pricing. Every single shirt is a price break. Along with Guaranteed Quantities (which eliminates damage rates and shortages) this means you can actually order exactly what you need.

Free Mockups

Included in every order are awesome mockups of all of your prints on all of your blanks. These aren't exactly what your prints will look like (although they are very accurate) and we will always match your art first and foremost with our prints, but they give you a great idea of what your print will look like and let you see placement and sizing on a real scaled mockup. They also will give a good estimation of your print style applied to your art.

We never charge for mockups, but they are very valuable for getting us on the same page. They also make great marketing materials to promote your upcoming prints!

Guaranteed Quantities

It’s a situation we’re very familiar with: You want to get shirts for your office team, but how many do you order? If you order exactly what you need one might get messed up and leave someone bummed out and shirtless; but, if you order more than you need you might get stuck with extra shirts that you already paid for and no one wants.

If you have dealt much with the screen printing industry, you know that damages and shortages are part of the process. We’ve got a great team and we rarely damage shirts, but mistakes can happen and sometimes blank shirts will even show up already damaged. Trust has officially rejected those limitations with Guaranteed Quantities. You can order what you need, sit back, and relax because we guarantee that you will receive every piece of every size you ordered. No shortages. No stress.

Printing

Should I order extra shirts?

There's no need to order extra shirts at Trust! Most print shops work with a 2-5% damage rate with the responsibility placed on the customer to cover their mistakes. We have rejected that system and have implemented Guaranteed Quantities. We guarantee that you will get every piece of every size that you ordered, every time.

Can you print my complicated design?

As long as your art fits on our screens (17" x 22.5"), we will almost always be able to recreate it. Our high detail and photorealistic printing is a place we really shine.

We’ve put in a ton of work on our halftone and high detail capabilities, dialing in every aspect of our process to allow us to reliably recreate art from a digital file to a physical print. A big breakthrough for our detail was the purchase of the i-Jet direct-to-screen imaging system a few years ago, which exponentially raised our print resolution.

How many colors can you print?

We have 10 head printing presses, so for Blend or Bleach prints 10 colors is our maximum. For Block prints on dark or colorful garments we will have to print an underbase and then flash cure it, so our maximum is 9 colors.

If that doesn't sound like enough colors just ask us about your art! We are very good at cutting ink colors and mixing color with halftones to achieve a huge color range with our 10 color limit. So far we haven't found a piece of art that we weren't able to recreate in our system.

We also offer CMYK printing, it's only available on white or very light colored garments, but it opens up an incredible amount of color with only 4 inks.

What shirts can you print on?

We have good relationships and considerable experience with most of the large garment brands, We can pretty much get our hands on any blank you would want to print on. However, we have realized that 10,000+ options can be pretty daunting, especially if you’re just starting out ordering shirts, so we have also built a Featured Blanks list to help find the right shirt with a little less headache.

Featured Blanks is a carefully curated list of our favorite shirts, covering almost every type of garment we print on (tees, tanks, v-necks, 100% cotton, tri-blend, etc.) with great color options. We are able to offer great pricing on these blanks, and by focusing in on a specific set of options, we are able to provide unprecedented information and detail about each one (including real-life photographs of our print styles on every color of every Featured Blank).

The full range of blanks from every brand and manufacturer is still very much available, but we suggest you give our Featured Blanks a look!

Embroidery

What can you embroider on?

Lots of things! Our main gig is hats, but we can do t-shirts, polos, bandanas, and a lot of other items. If you've got something unique you'd like to know about, just email hello@trustprintshop.com and tell us about it!

Here are some items that are impossible or just don't look very good:

  • Thick puffy fabric, like a blanket or a beanie: The thread pulls itself tight against the backing, so an extra thick fabric is going to bunch up, pucker, and warp.
  • Non-flat items that aren't hats: We have special machinery to stitch on hats, but otherwise the item must be able to lay flat to go through the machine.
  • Thin, see-through, stretchy, or ribbed garments: There are a couple of issues here. First, thin or stretchy fabric will tend to move a lot as it's stitched, causing warping, misalignment, and poor details. Second, we use a fabric backing to help give the embroidery strength and security, and a thin (especially white) shirt will show the backing through the fabric, which can look like a rough white outline of the design.
  • Paper: While stitching paper is possible, it is usually hand-made and our current set up isn't able to handle it in a production capacity.
What thread colors do you have?

We have 35 house colors that are always in stock and always included in the cost of your embroidery. We think they cover a wide range of art. If it's not vital that your colors are totally exact, we think our house colors will work great for you. If you need an exact color for any reason, we have access to a huge catalog of thread and can get you what you need. It is a $25 fee per custom color.

Do you do puff/3D embroidery?

Yes we do! It's a really cool process that adds a layer of foam between the hat and the thread for a raised look that takes your hats to the next level. It is an extra $0.75 per hat, and there are a few restrictions:

  • No small text: Small text isn't great for any embroidery, but especially with puff. The thread needs enough room to properly stitch around the letters and cut out the foam. The best candidates for puff are large block letters. I really wouldn't got any less than 40 or 50pt font with block letters. Feel free to ask us if your design is a good candidate.
  • No large blocks of color: There are multiple types of stitches needed to embroider a design. Any element that's wider than about .5 inches needs a fill stitch, where the machine stitches in a pattern to fill a large area. Fill stitches are incompatible with puff embroidery because they push down the foam so much that it's no longer raised off of the hat. If you have a design with big blocks of color and block letters, we can stitch the blocks and then drop 3D text on top of it.

Please reach out if you have any questions about 3D embroidery or about setting up your art.

How do I design for embroidery?
  • Simplify, simplify, simplify. Embroidery just can't recreate the small details of screen printing.
  • Avoid small text, thin line work, and intricate shapes.
  • Avoid doing text or shape cutouts, where the hat shows through a detailed cutout of a larger shape.
  • Remember that embroidery can't handle low opacity, gradients, or color mixing.

Art

What type of files should I submit?

There are a few different option for file types, depending on if it is a vector file or a raster file.

Vector Files (From Adobe Illustrator or a similar program)

Vector art should come over as a .pdf or an .ai file. Please outline all text and strokes and make sure images are embedded.

Raster Files (From Adobe Photoshop or a similar program)

Raster art can come in many different formats, .psd would be the best case, but a high quality .png or .jpg can also work just fine. The biggest concern with a raster file is that it needs to be at least at 300ppi at the dimensions that you want to print it (600ppi is even better).

If all this technical jargon is confusing, feel free to reach out over email or live chat us, or just send this info to your designer and they should know what to do with it!

Help! I don't have a design!

You are in luck! Trust offers professional design services at very reasonable rates.

Our design portfolio

Custom art is not currently built into our order form, so if you need design work send us an email, call us, or live chat us and explain what you're looking for. For very simple recreations or if you just need something typed out in a nice font we will quote you an amount of time to finish it and bill a clean $1 per minute of work. Anything that needs to be designed from scratch will get a flat $100 fee. We love thinking about that design cost on a per/shirt basis, and usually it works out to less than $1 per shirt to get a really great design that people will want to own and wear all the time.

To get that perfect design that makes your dreams come true, our designers humbly ask for:

  • The official, final text to be included in the design (make sure there aren't any typos)
  • A description of any general style or concept you have in mind (i like old western designs / make it look like a sports team logo)
  • Any logos or design elements that need to be included
  • Screenshots, links, or descriptions of any design inspiration to help guide the design.
